| Background about the TRICAL® Triticale Program |
| The TRICAL® triticale breeding program acquired by Resource Seeds, Inc. in 1990 was begun by Dr. Charles Jenkins.
Dr. Jenkins began working on triticale in 1954 with colleagues at the University of Manitoba. He made important genetic advances and
was responsible for much of the early development of triticale as a crop. Through his own breeding efforts and cooperation with breeders
all over the world, Dr. Jenkins developed an extensive collection of basic germplasm and advanced lines. This breeding by Dr. Jenkins in
conjunction with the pioneering market development on forage triticale done by Ron Kershen, Canyon, Texas, gave rise to the first commercially
successful triticale varieties in North America. Drawing on the unique expertise of its team of triticale breeders and the most diverse collection of triticale breeding lines in the world, the TRICAL® program has pioneered the use of triticale for grazing, silage, hay, and cover crop. Each year the program tests thousands of new triticale lines at its research “hubs” through-out the U.S.. New varieties that demonstrate superior yield and quality for several years in small-plot tests are then tested more widely in strip trials, and then on to commercial evaluation. The combination of the most advanced genetics and the most thorough testing distinguishes TRICAL® brand triticale varieties from all other varieties.
